What should I pay for this leftover???
« on: March 04, 2005, 05:23:03 PM »
My dealer has this 2003 Bandit 1200S brand new.  He just bought the place from the previous dealer and I know it was sitting there in October 2004.  Any thoughts on what you would pay out the door before tax and registration???

I'd try for around $6000.
A couple of hundred either way is a deal........
I wouldn't pay over $6500......not counting local taxes......

Don't let them play with 'prep' fees.   Just nail a price 'out the door' excluding whatever mandatory taxes there are in your area.
  Good luck! :bandit:

FWIW, I paid $6500 for my '99 new, in '99, and it had $300 of free gear with it. (Suzuki factory deal)

Could be.  I think the last search of Cycletrader.com spit out a new naked '03 for under 6000, and the cheapest 1200s I could find was like $6200, but that was an '04 or '05.   (A couple of weeks ago.)
  You're right...I'd start well under 6000.  I doubt you'd have much of a chance at 5000, though.
  I think I saw a leftover '99 1200s 3 years ago for $4999....but it was in California!

Thanks guys for the good info all around.  These bandits are good bikes that have dated technology (doesn't really matter in the real world).  Because of this, they don't exactly jump out of the showrooms.  They actually are "sleeper" deals for folks who want powerful, all-day comfortable bikes that are fun to ride, and cheaper to insure.

My instinct told me about $6000.  Now you guys confirmed it.  I am riding a Honda Shadow that I like and will keep (will not trade it to the "stealer").  So, I don't need to rush.

(By the way Sloper 10, we are too "flat" here in South Jersey to do any slope soaring, so I am a basic sport flyer.)

Will keep everyone posted on how this plays out.

Well, here is where we are folks.

I offered $6000 for the new 03 Bandit 1200S including first service (Valves and Carb Sync).  Called me back with a figure of $6240 and no first service.  I politely declined and told the salesperson to keep me in mind, but the offer wouldn't stay on the table forever, in that I was looking around at FZ1's and Bandits new, and even some used.

He said he would keep me in mind, but that he was going to present that offer to several other people who were interested (I guess they always have them waiting in the wings).

So much for now.  If anything else happens, I will let you know.

Bandit cost...
« Reply #9 on: March 08, 2005, 03:05:37 PM »
Hey Seniorbiker....after sitting on, maybe, thirty different bikes, my stealer handles five different brands, I picked out three and asked him to give me his best out the door cash price, including a new lid, for each.  Had I known what that first service was going to cost I would have negotiated that too!  I was completely amazed at the price on the Bandit and had to either step up or slink away....I am so very pleased with the "old technology" that lifts the front wheel at 80 mph.......btw..I fly power also...when I have to....I usually go to the power field on windy days when there is just me and a few other nut cases about...

Good try!   We'll see, I'm guessing there's a 50/50 chance he'll call back.

FWIW, the range of fees for the first service are really variable.
I've heard dealers charge anywhere from a low of $70, to up in the $300 range.
There's also the question of what they're actually doing for $70!

Just something to consider if you're working the price of the first service into a purchase price.

Oh yeah......how many people do you think they have waiting in the wings for a new 2003 Bandit in 2005?

Just did a search on Cycletrader.   Cheapest NEW 1200s I could find is this 2004 in Athens, OH.

The Naked '03 1200 is still up for grabs in Wisconsin for $5999.

First service, $260.00 plus "shop supplies", read stealer fees, and tax..a bit over $300.00.  And I also looked at my invoice on the bike, it was $6199.00.  I can't remember breakfast much less October...... :duh:

I bought my 2002 B12 in August 2003 for $6200 in Houston.  Dealer wanted $6299.  When the deal was struck I asked to look at the invoice, it was just below 6200.  There are other monetary incentives for the dealer, but getting a bike at near invoice is just about the best you can do.  I did get them to throw in a factory service manual.

Tchuck, I think your advice is sound.

My problem, in this situation, is that we are talking 2 model years (2003 to 2005), not just one year.  I know that the bikes are the same.  I even like the Silver color of the '03.  Who knows, I may yet walk in and buy it on the spur of the moment and say "to hell" with the resale value.   :thanks:
