Ride
« on: March 23, 2006, 01:52:24 PM »
This has been a sleepy site lately, time to come out of hibernation. I've put a total of 60 mi on my bike since last October.  We'll need to set up a ride in the coming months.  We've got a good snow pack so mountain rides probably won't happen till May.  Anyway, thought we could throw out some ideas for April or May

There's some sweet roads in the foothills and coastal areas up here (SR9, Chuckanut, Mountain Loop, Orcas Island...)
Anytime you wanna go, give a holler and we can scrape something up!

I would be up for a ride.     I know a few guys with bikes, but 1 has a Hardly Driven, and the other has a Honda Davidson Chubby Boy.  The guy with the Hardly Driven only rides when it is nice, so he doesnt have to clean his chrome.  The Chubby Boy guy is a fair weather guy too, and just back into bike after a 20 year vacation.  My Bother- in-law has a SV650, but he Refs Baseball in the Spring/summer and his wife works Sundays.  So usually its just Me, Myself and I that go riding.

A ride up north would be fun, I haven't been up there much.  Still want to do Mt Baker when the roads clear up.  I know how it goes trying to get riders together, I do a lot of solo rides.  Not bad though, those are the days you can put in big miles since there's no one to talk to.  A group ride like we had at St Helens last year was a lot of fun though.  We'll watch the weather and see how people's schedules are later in April.

Bobcat and I get together fairly often since we're so close to each other, usually on short notice - like 24 hours, sometimes less.

We really need to schedule a Mt Baker run this summer! Maybe sometime in August? (It's not uncommon for them to be skiiing on the 4th of July up there.) They just repaved that road last year and it transformed the road to my new #1 favorite in the state! Beating out SR20 and the St. Helens area. St Helens would be a little better than Baker if the pavement wasn't in such crappy shape.

There are rumors of road repair but I imagine funds are tight.  My last ride thru there in October was really teeth chattering in a few places.  I definitely want to do a Mt Baker run, I see my wife's cousin now and then he keeps wondering when I'm going to stop by his restaurant in Glacier.  Big snowpack this year so it will probably be August.

I love the new raod to baker!
Just driving a small car up there is already fun. With a bike it'll be awesome!
So far since february, I've been drivin up mt. Baker to snowboard. Only missed one weekend so far.
I'm excited to make a run up there with my b6.
I would ride up there tomorrow but my bike can't hold my board boots and gear. Hehe

Anybody plannin a ride up baker next month? Count me in.

Snowboarding is my current thrill right now so, till the lifts stop movin, ill be boarding.

You'll have to keep us informed on the road conditions then.  :bigok:

Let us no when they're dry and the sand is gone.

pretty sandy up there yesterday, my car skid a couple times.
had some snow on the road about 5 miles before i got to the lower lodge.
but i guess i was early, i got there 8am, the snow on the road already melted when i left the lodge at 3pm.
maybe the road will be a lil better next saturday.
