First Gear Jackets?
« on: July 15, 2007, 01:57:53 PM »
I just bought a First Gear Sport Jacket on closeout from the Iron Pony for only $40. Is this a decent jacket? I couldn't pass it up for that price! I have a First Gear mesh jacket and it's been good. Here's the link to it; FIRSTGEAR-SPORT-GREY

i have all first gear textile stuff, and love it. looks like a good mid weight jacket. i have the trekkar jacket and ht over pants for my cold weather gear. great stuff. have had them almost 20000 miles and held up great. i would say almost anything they make should be good quality. o.t. you ever ride in south east ohio?

I like First Gear, but the zippers fupping suck....at least on the HT Air Overpants I have. First season two of the leg zippers busted along with the front/crotch zipper. Sent them in (under warranty) and had it fixed. Got them back and a month into the next riding season all were broke again. The zipper itself is fine, but the pull tabs are complete junk. Spent over $150 on those pants so I wasn't too happy about it happening...twice. Have to say it's made me leary of buying anything else from them. Probably a one in a thousand thing, but still irks me.

Thanks for all the replies! I just got it today and it seems nice! The padding is better than the mesh first gear jacket I have. Hell of a steal at $40! As far as zipper problems go, I've never had any with my other first gear jacket but I always have trouble with the zipper on the liner of my joe rocket meteor 5.0.

berea is in the great flat north near cleveland. but we do day rides south to hit the good stuff at least once a month. we ride down near bolivar into barnesville, then into st clairesville, some times into w.v. near hundred w.v. on 250 and rt 7. we also do loops down into woodsfeild and marrieta(sp) some times we head to hocking hills and ride near zanesville. we pretty much ride most of central to south east ohio. check out the group i ride with at C.O.R.E. if you ever want to head out for a ride there are three of us from the board that ride with each other. we all use to own bandit at one point.

Thanks for the link. I'll have to sign up and possibly meet up for a ride sometime. Quite a few of my friends go to st. clairsville alot. In fact, we will be having a memorial ride for one of our groups fallen riders next month. We will be riding down to hopewell. Our group has a few riders located in the cleveland area. Maybe you and a few guys from your group can meet with a few from mine and ride down with us. Check out our groups site,  groups.yahoo.com/group/eastern_ohio_sport_bike_riders/.
