I'm thinking about bringing my R1 to BOSS this year, and since its kind of tough to put a tailpack on a sportbike, I was considering a backpack to carry my rainsuit and a few other essentials.

Any recommendations?

How about the Ventura Bike Pack?

A possibility could be that if you bought the "L" brackets for the Bandit, the racks & packs could be used on either bike - assuming the two bikes have the same spacing at the ends of the "L" brackets.

I would think that wearing a backpack on an R1 might be pretty uncomfortable after a while.

I would think that the Tourmaster Sport Tailbag would stay put on your R1.

Honestly, I wear a backpack all the time. Unless it's REALLY hot out, I never even know it's there. The only problem I have with it is if I bring the two zippers to meet at the top and don't get them exactly closed, the wind can open them up (bye, bye gym clothes!!!!!). If you zip it to one of the sides, no problemo. I use my tank bag if I want to use the map pocket or need easy access to something. Otherwise, I prefer the backpack.

My backpack is nothing special - just like what my son uses as a school bag. This isn't mine but it's similar:

I use this pack. It's designed for Laptops and the like but tote the essentials when I don't want to put on the Givi bags. It's comfortable to wear but I usually strap on the luggage rack and it blends in well.
shop around there are usually used ones for sale at a deep discount.

If you're deadset on a backpack, check out a local Sports Authority. They usually have a lot of daypacks and other backpacks for sale.
Will be cheaper than a Bike specific pack.........
I've had several I use when I travel.
The current one is an Eastpack. Jansport is another decent brand.
$40-50 goes a long way......

That's nice. It doesn't have a bunch of straps hanging off of it to flap in the wind like a more typical backpack.

I always recommend back packs from Eastern Mountain Sport. They're built for hiking, but offer great back support, are built very well, and come with a lifetime warranty. Something breaks, you just bring it into the store, and they either fix it or get you a new one.

I use mine on the bike, and it's great because you can adjust the straps so it doesn't flop around.

Just my 2 cents' worth.

I've started throwing my Timbuk2 Bike Messenger bag over me shoulder when having to haul more than the tank bag would handle. With strap around the chest secured, you don't even know it's there...plus it's got reflective flags on it.

I'm not in love with my soft saddlebags....no matter how tight I make them they still flop a bit and abraid the tail paint.
