SW-Motech + Bestem TopCase on Gen2 B12
« on: May 26, 2008, 07:13:09 PM »
Hi all!
This is my first post here... I've been reading so much useful information in the last year (since I purchased my 2003 B12S) that I figured it would only be natural to give a bit myself!

As I use my bike to travel for business quite a lot during summer, I needed something better than my old tankbag and a tailbag. Soft luggage has its limitations and I grew tired of putting up with it all. So... After much reading, I decided to bite the bullet and buy a SW-Motech rack from Twisted Throttle and a 46L top case from Bestem, through their ebay store.

Both items arrived swiftly and perfectly packaged. Installation of the SW-Moteck was a breeze and only took a couple of minutes. Pictures don't do justice to this item. IT IS THICK AND STONG! I don't know what gauge they use for this, but belive me, it won't bend! Most importantly for me, unlike the ugly GIVI topcase rack, you basically don't notice it if you don't put the topcase on.

As for the topcase, the base plate included is quite also quite sturdy. As expected, I had to drill new holes to fit it to the rack existing holes (you don't want to drill through the SW-Moteck rack, belive me!). No biggie there: I got it installed in less than an hour, among which at least 50 minutes were spent measuring and double checking measurments before drilling! However, I didn't bother with the lights integrated in the case: Since there's no proper quick-connect, I don't want to deal with wires every time I take the case with me. Other than that, I was really pleased with the quality of the box. It's not GIVI-quality, but more than enough to get the job done and looks just allright once installed.

After now a couple of rides with some junk in the trunk (hehe) to figure how it rides with some weight up high on the back , I can assess it  makes no noticable difference. I was also pleased to discover that nothing vibrates or rattles.

All in all, a very recomended addition to anyone lokking for some more practicality on their workhorse.
As for the price, here in Canada, it came down to less than 250$, all included. Considering the price of a 46L Givi topbox, I say this is a deal.

Hope this helps someone else to make their mind!
Good summer to everyone!
