SCORPION SLIP ON

Just wanted to drop a line and give my two cents worth about a real sweet deal of a can!!! The Scorpion Oval Slip-on really brings out the sweet sound of the old Gixxer engine. I took my time and read reviews.. As well as listened to bikes with different cans. I had it down to Yoshi, Holeshot and Scorpion. Can't really go wrong with any of these.  I went with Scorpion and have no regrets... Fit and finish is good and I didn't have to rejet, which I heard is not necessary unless you go with new headers. Bike runs really strong... A little longer warm up time but once she is hot  "ITS LIGHTS OUT!!" I would guess about two to three HP gain... Which is about the standard for slip on with no jetting!! I have gotten more compliments on the deep growl coming from the back during idle, and it really sounds awesome above 7000 grand!!

Gotta add my endorsement of the Scorpion bolt on muffler.  It sounds great, installs easily and the jetting seems just fine although I've only ridden long enough to warm up the motor -- it's only 35 degrees here in Minneapolis.

It had a bad smell for a while until some internal coating or something burnt off.  The outlet was a bit oily, but that cleaned up with come carb cleaner and a rag.

Pipe City shipped quickly, I ordered it Saturday and got it in the mail yesterday (Teusday).  $260 and shipping was free!  When warmer weather permits I'll take the bike to a friend's place -- he has a CO exhaust gas analyzer -- I'll verify that the jetting is okay, just for safety's sake.

Does it come with a mid pipe?
What does it include?

It's just a bolt on arrangement.  It comes with three stainless steel bolts that screw into an aluminum muvvler adapter that's attached to the stainless steel muffler assembly.  

After starting it up I took it apart again to add a bit of high temp. silicon gasket material to the joint where mid pipe and muffler join.  i did this because I could feel a bit of an exhaust leak, although I counldn't hear it.

Unfortunately I had to put the bike away for the winter before I could ride more than about 50 miles enjoying the new sound.  The bike started readily in 32 degree weather and ran without a glitch, indicating that the jetting really didn't have to be changed.

Has anybody out there put a Scorpion slip-on on their '05 Bandit 1200S?

My dealer got one in for me but it has a 3 bolt flange on the engine end of the can and no mid-pipe. My '05 does not have a 3 bolt flange connector for the stock can. The stock muffler and the mid-pipe seem to be one piece with the mid-pipe connecting to the headers with a clamp. Does anyone know if I should have gotten a mid-pipe with some sort of adapter to fit up to the 3 bolt flange?  

Any info would be appreciated as usual.

As far as I know the Scorpion does NOT come with a mid pipe.  The 2005s are obviously different than my 2003 system.  Maybe you could order just the mid-pipe although I'm not sure.  Check out <www.ronayers.com> for fiche for the Bandit, although I'm not sure the 2005 model in included.

I wanted to go with the Scorpion because of the great reviews that I read on here and the fact that everyone said that they were not obnoxiously loud. It looks like I may have to go with another manufacturer.

I know that the term "loud" is different for each person but have you ridden with other Bandit riders that have slip-ons that you might recommend? I'm looking for a good deep mellow sound without that raspy sound at high rpms. (Kinda like a Scorpion, lol).

The Yosh & Holeshot cans come with midpipes and get great reviews from everyone as well. Since they come with midpipes, they will make better power than a Scorpion and a stock (restrictive) midpipe from a 2001-2003 B12.

I think that I'm going to go with a Yosh slip-on. I mean, if a person really thinks about it, a Suzuki SHOULD have a Yoshimura pipe.

You are correct Paul. Poor choice of words on my part.   I hear Wes is still fast.

 This might be showing my age a bit but I used to wait for my latest monthly motorcycle rag to hit the mailbox so I could read the latest battles between Cooley and Freddie Spencer. I can remember to this day a picture of Wes sneering at a calm, quiet Fast Freddie with the caption saying that Cooley called Spencer "Preacher Boy" as he antagonized him off the track like he did on the track.

Not on the Bandit. But on a CBR929. Very good quality that stands over time.  Great feature is the lifetime ceramic packing. No repacks needed.

My 1200 has just had this can added, like the sound with db killer out. Factory about 12 miles from where i live so had it made to order and collected it myself. Good quality product nice finish, bike seems to like it too. 9/10

I can't speak to the Scorpion on a Bandit as I have the Yosh TRS on mine , but I do have the Scorpion on the SV 650. Makes my wife smile every time she fires it up. Very Ducatti sounding.

I have a scorpion on my 98 b-12. Has about 80,000 miles on it now. 60,000 from my first 98 b-12 and 20,000 on my second one. Packing is still doing its job. Very durable, Im happy with the quality. Sound is deep and on the quieter side.
