250 and 400 similarities
« on: March 04, 2010, 10:51:32 PM »
Is someone able to sum up the common elements between the two models?

I have a 250V and trying to decide what the best course of action is for suspension. All the companies who supply fork springs and shocks list the 400 but not the 250. Given that some GSX-R USD forks and rear shocks will fit the 400, I would like to know whether this applies to the 250.

- Are forks, head stem etc the same?
- Is the shock the same?
- Are there any other similarities?

I am never going to contemplate putting a 400 motor in the 250. If there are other improvements to be had from using 400 parts then I am all for it. If I was contemplating engine swaps I would get the Two Stroke Shop here in OZ to build a triple to suit the frame...

I have searched the forums and found bits and pieces, but nothing that puts all this information together. 400s are popular and common elsewhere in the world - I have never seen a 400 in Australia. The only 400 we got in any reasonable numbers was the Honda RVF400, and now the CB400.

Cheers

Hi Ben,
I dont know the similarities if any other than Suzi are notorius for sharing parts.
If you post up any measurements you need to know i will measure for the B4 as ive loads of spare parts in the shed.
If i could afford a custom 2stroke, especially one from the Two stroke shop, id be buying one tomorrow as they build some amazing motors.

Chris.

Thanks mate. I have some measurements, unfortunately they are as close as I could get with a steel rule, no verniers or tape measure. Note to self: start equipping garage better for future projects...  :banghead:

Head stem length is approx 180mm, from upper to lower collets.
Top collet outer diam: ~54-56mm
Bottom collet outer diam: 64mm

I can try to fetch a model number from the rear shock if I can locate it.

No worries mate!

My other thread that may be of interest is also: http://forums.banditalley.net/index.php?topic=12382.0

I measured the dogbones out of interest and these were 136-138mm between bolt centres. I couldn't get a more accurate measurement.

Forks are 41mm and at 190mm centers.
from the lower dirt seal to the top is 228mm, the top part that fits through the top yoke is 22mm dia X 34mm long, the next part that the top bearing and C nut fit on is 25mm dia X 32mm and then its 160mm to the bottom. Bottom bearing is 30mm inner dia.
