Adjusting Float Height

When adjusting float height, I should be measuring from the float bowl seam to the edge of the float on the butterfly valve side, right?  That's what the manual says, but I think it makes more sense to measure from the higher edge of the float on the intake side of the carbs.

Also, the b-4 is now only running up to 2000 rpms, even at WOT.  This means my floats are set to high (meaning more than 15mm), right?

I have a float tool (looks like a "C"  with a width slider and a height slider).  I'm just confused as to where I measure on the float.  The end of the float facing the engine, or the end of the float facing the air box.

don't they say in the middle if your using that tool i try to tilt the carbs  so that the float is barely sitting on the spring part of the float needle then measure...then adjust if needed... then let it rest on the the needle barely again and recheck if the carb are completely upside down the float weighs the needle spring down and your float height will be off...the float height does all kinds of crazy stuff from running out of gas to to much fuel or rich slow speed circuit or more...

I would measure from the highest point...

Like Jay said, using the tool tilt the carbs so they're just touching and then measure the highest point.

IIRC there was some molding flash at the very tippy-top of my floats that I would use as a reference.

I use either a set of calipers or a machinist rule to measure mine.

I made a little "C" shaped thing out of cardboard. It's not adjustable but I knew exactly what height I wanted... if I want another height I cut out another tool...

Works great for anyone else who's cheap and sick of using calipers to measure floats.

Great idea with the cardboard.  Wish I'd thought of that before I spent $25 on a float tool.

Oh well, I'm not that good with scissors anyway...
