1200 caliper for Bandit 250
« on: December 24, 2005, 03:13:09 PM »
My front brake has been binding lately and attempting to fix the problem myself didn't help that much.

Now I know the Bandit 1200 and 250 share the same front discs, but what I want to know is - will the 1200 front brake caliper fit the 250? Thanks

Measure the mounting holes on both, but I'd be surprised if they're the same. The 1200 uses big calipers and they won't even fit on the B6. A GS500 caliper or a B6 caliper may work, and I'm pretty sure the 250 uses the same caliper as the single disc B4. Not sure how common a single disc B4 is in the UK, but that's all we got here in the USA, so if you can find one from a Yank parting out a B4, that should do... but double check the mounting hole distances on those too, just to be sure.

Cheers. It will be easy enough to get hold of a 250 or 400 caliper from a breakers, but I fancy something new. The GS500 disc is mounted on the right leg, whereas the B250 is the left, so they wouldn't work. I will look into it, tried rolling it out of the garage earlier - binding almost completely now  :crybaby:

The 12 may work.  I know the US/single disc 400 uses the same rotor as the 12 so it wouldn't be out of the question.

Seriously I don't know why all the stuffing around about trying to find something else to fit. Just buy the new bits for the caliper, piston seals, brake pads and bugger all else and fit them correctly. Will work fine forever more without buggerising around to fit some other junk. These bikes have nice brakes so can't see sense in changing.

I just fancy something new, the whole caliper's a mess, if the 1200 was a straight swap I'd get one. Not as I want to upgrade, just want a newer caliper
