Best sport touring tyres for 250 Bandit
« on: March 06, 2015, 05:11:19 PM »
Hey guys,

I'm looking for a good set of Sport-touring tyres for my 93' 250. I'm particularly looking for excellent wet weather traction as it's getting into winter here in Wellington, New Zealand...
I was recommended Michelins Pilot Road 3 or 4, but it seems the 4 isn't made in my size and the 3 is only available in the 110 for the front tyre, not the 140 for the rear (though maybe I could put a 150 on rear?)... Pirellis Sport Demon is available in the same size, but I can't find any direct comparisons... are they even in the same class?

Wow, winter already?!  Don't you get autumn at all?

Suzuki recommends 110/70 for the 3.0" front wheel and 140/70, 150/60, 150/70 on the 4.0" rear wheel for various models.  Other sizes go on at your discretion.

Michelin Pilot Road, Pirelli Angel, Bridgestone BT-023, T30 are radial tyres, in order of alleged touring vs. sport performance.  Maybe Avon Storm 3D.  Pilot Road 4 has a "GT" version also.  Most of these tyres are not available in the 110/70 size though.

Bridgestone BT-45, Dunlop GT501, Pirelli Sport Demon are cheaper cross-ply tyres with harder rubber that will last longer while notifying you of every bump on the road.  They all have deep tread for wet performance though, and plenty of riders race on them too.  Avon Roadrider, IRC RX-01, RX-02 probably compare too.

Shinko Podium is a cheap radial option, somewhere in the middle of all this.

Good luck!

Don't know what's available over in NZ but really rate the Bridgestone bt090 or bt092.
090 is quite soft with a lot of grip and 092 is harder more mileage based.
I know a lot of the 400 riders in the UK use 090 front and 092 rear
People swear by them and they are by far the most used tyre over hear
People even race on the 090.
