Water leak into starter clutch ?
« on: April 04, 2008, 02:49:01 AM »
Oh boy...the drama continues.
After a 6 month project & rebuild....( yea i shoulda paid more attention to the bottom end but hey )...left cylinder compression very low so new rings are here ( thanks again Jay ).....after removing the starter clutch cover we find a small amount of water/oil in this area.
previously when we did the head with new vavle seals, springs etc a new gasket was used & no water leaks were apparent)
Any ideas where this water coming from? Possibly a slightly warped head?
Upon further inspection everything else looks norrmal..ie,no oil in the cooling system & no other areas with water in the lubrication system....head & valves look normal.
Thanks for any ideas.

How "small" of an amount of water?
Any chance this is just condensation?

Had the same thought yesterday as the bike has been sitting for about 6 weeks but the mech reckons its too much for condensation.

It turns out that the head is slightly warped.....allowing water past the valves of cyl 2/3.
So the head was sent of to the machine shop but on closer inspection he thinks it has been machined by a previous owner & didnt want to do it again ( too close to the lip of the valves ) so the mech has made a second very thin gasket which he has done before & reckons we have a 50/50 chance.
Sooo.the question is if this isnt sucessfull are second B4 heads available anywhere...whats a ballpark price & if there is 1 around it has to be shipped to Bali.
Bottom end looks great...cylinders polished...the new rings fit very nice & i hope this is going to get me running nicely with all the other replaced parts.
