Ive just had my chain & sprockets replaced with standard 14/46 ones but now the bike appears to be noticeably slower on acceleration! Im guessing that the previous owner down geared the bike and I want that acceleration back!

I can get either a 47 or 49 tooth rear sprocket so was wondering whether anyone could advise on which is best? Would going up 3 teeth be too much? Then again would one extra tooth be too little?!

Also, if I was to go up to a 49 tooth rear, would the chain be long enough? Interestingly the service manual states a 112 link chain but the replacement I got was 114 links - will I be able to get a 49 rear on using this?

Bike is a 93 variable valve import.

So is it as simple as that? 114 link chain will fit ok?

Im going to be swapping over the sprocket myself which im guessing to be pretty straight forward. Take off old one and bolt on new one right!

Will the 14t front sprocket be ok?

You should be fine with the 14/49. Not sure about the chain length. I'm surprised you were able to get the chain tight enough with the 114 and standard gearing. Are you sure whoever put it on didn't cut it down to 112? That's what I did with my 114.

You may need some heat to break the loctite on the bolts. At least you don't have to break the 13 year old bond on those bolts like I did!

Thats good to hear!

When I spoke to the mechanic who has just fitted the sprockets & chain he said the chain just went straight on - does seem a bit slack though.

So if I buy a 49t rear I can just take the rear wheel off, remove sprocket, put 49t on and slip the chain back on? Obviously then adjust the tension again.

Got the 49 rear but it seems that the chain is too short.

This is the first time Ive done this so maybe ive got it wrong, but i have just put the rear wheel back on and even with it pushed all the way forward on the swingarm I cant get the chain tension right. The wheel is pointing slightly to the left but if I tighten up the left hand adjuster any more the chain slack is about 10mm. Ive set it up as best I can and at the moment and the slack is a within spec 25mm, but like I say the wheel is slightly veering left.

So what should I do next? DID list their replacement chain for the B4 as DID525V-114 - should I buy a DID525V-118 and cut to fit?

If the chain is too short, like you say, then you need a longer one... so yes, the 118 cut down to 116 should do it for you.
