Ignition swaps?

I am fed up with replacing the same inferior ignition parts on my wifes 400.  :banghead: CDI  :banghead:

Is anyone using bits and pieces of ignition components from other makes/models?

Ive had the same CDI for 21 years so i'd say there is a reason the cdi's are going, over charging etc.
