Engine Paint

Anybody have any idea where I can source engine paint for my 93 B4?  I've tried ColorRite and PJ1 with no success.  PJ1, by the way, is now out of the paint business.  They sold their paint line to SW and so far, no product is forthcoming.  Any PJ1 paint products you find are NOS.  I only need to do a little touch up and would rather not drop the engine for a complete respray...........that and I like the OEM color.  Suggestions?  Maybe some of you guys in the UK have better access to this kind of thing since the bandit was sold there for so much longer.

The supplier where I usually get my paint couldn't get the engine color either. So I took a spare engine part and had a spray can made from that example.

I wish I could find someone here to make me a custom color in a spray can but so far, no luck.

At the place where I work we needed some touch up paint for the conveyors and just took a paint chip to O'Reilly Auto parts to have it matched. Most hardward stores (around here) have/had computer scanning that can match what color you want. O'Reilly auto parts did do a very good job and put it in a spray can,,,,,,,,, but was $21.00 a can

But looked good and did the job very well.

PS.... Oh yes, the match we had, on the converyors, did also come back to 1999 White Volvo!

Excellent!!!  There's an O'Reilly's not too far from here.  As far as the price goes, $21 is a bit spendy, but I guess it's the price you pay for having a bike that's not exactly the same as everyone else's.  Frankly, I wouldn't ride a new R6 if you gave it to me.  I don't like seeing myself coming in the other direction.  Thanks for the info.  I'll post my results soon.

Kindly excuse my asking this... Is engine paint different froom therest of the automotive paints? If so, what's the difference?

i have been thinking of painting my bike... I would not have looked for a specific engine paint...

Most Good/Name brand paint will hold up to high'ish  heat. The "engine paint" just grantees that it will do "better" heat resistance. I know the Krylon high heat engine paint that is rated to 1200° F /649° C said it has ceramic in it to help it resist high heat.
Now that said, you can paint just about anything on your bike, except the exhaust,
with ever-good quality paint you want. I live in a mild climate zone in Oklahoma
and have had good results with 1200° F paint on my engine. Just remember that paint and Ceramic paint for sure is an insulator and hold heat in, if you have many HOT days where you live might want to consider that (from my old Volkswagen/ Harley Davidson days). If your bike is water-cooled not that much of a big deal. And yes sand and clean everything that you’re going to paint, and use light multi coats or the paint will come off  like peeling the shell of a hard boiled egg!

Now that said, you can paint just about anything on your bike, except the exhaust.

I painted my exhaust a few years ago with spray paint that was good up to 850 degrees celsius. It looked like new 

Only after 6 months the paint was gone at the headers of the exhaust. But since spraying the exhaust is very simple you could do it twice a year...

Ofcourse now the yosh system doesn't have to be painted but it still needs to be cleaned twice a year to have it look good. And cleaning it (harpic liquid toilet cleaner stuff; wear gloves!!) takes a lot more time then spray painting the original exhaust...

I painted the works finish (bare metal) pipe on this bike with Rustoleum industrial high temp 1000 deg paint.I got tired of cleaning the rust off with the toilet bowl stuff only to have to do it again the week after and the week after that. Three seasons and about 100 motos later,no rust thru,no burn off or flaking and still looks great.The Bandit exhaust is going to get the gloss black treatment with the same stuff.

Yep,1000*f and its in an oversized chrome spray can.I believe 15oz.

Not sure of the product # of the Gloss black but all the cans look like the one below for reference.

I did some work for the Rustoleum people a while back so I will make a call and see if this can be had up here in Canuckistan.
