Help me figure out if I have factory gearing...
« on: October 29, 2006, 10:21:11 PM »
Went riding today, sustained 85+, and for the first time I noticed "Man, this thing is revving like crazy up here!" What RPM are you at(stock gearing) at say 70mph? I have a feeling mine is not stock, but it's all speculation. Or better yet, what is the count on teeth on both gears? Thanks!

Do a search.  It's been posted before.  I want to say that the 91/92 gearing is 15/46 and the 93 is 15/47 but that's just off the top of my head.  The bikes rev high.  Don't be afraid of revving it.  It'll sustain 100+ pretty comfortably (with stock gearing anyway).

I just did a quick search up on here, and it seems there are a lot of 'It could be this ___" does anyone know for sure? Right now mine sits at 14/47. Which  from what I've read, at least this part I'm almost sure on, is one down from stock up front, but I can't for the life of me find any solid info on the rear cog...

That's definately what I was thinking. So say I go up one in the front, will it get me closer to 'stockish'? I dont want to lose all the get up and go, I just want something a little more refined.

hmmmm, so what is the rear supposed to be? I can tell my rear sprocket is aftermarket, so I'm guessing it's taller as well...

Probably sounds really daft but have you checked in the Specifications section of any of the Service Manuals that are provided on this site??

It should mention in there what the gear ratio's are, and of course that would be stock!

92 is the same as 91.  A bunch of stuff, including the gearing, changed in 93.

Well, it appears then my gearing is not that far off from stock. So say I want to cruise a little more comfortably on the higway, i.e. not 10k RPM at 95ish MPH, what sprocket setup do you guys suggest? I've read the SV650 rear sprockets fit, so lots of fitment options there, but what about front? Is there anything else that fits? Or am I only able to get a 14t front stateside?

Considering that the little suckers top out in the mid 110s and redline is 14K, 10K at 95 sounds reasonable.  I don't know of any alternate front sprocket offerings.  You might try emailing someone like Sprocket Specialists cuz... well... they're sprocket specialist!     Seriously, they may know something.  I know for a fact, the SV fits the rear.  I had one on for a while.
