What cycle computer to replace speedo?

Well, my speed cable finally went bust while I was cruising on thw freeway today. Anyone recommend a good cycling computer to replace it?

I am just frustrated.  :sad:
I have spent quite a few hours fixing various issues on my bandit. Today I finally got every thing sorted, and took the 400 out for a spin only to have the cable snap. A cycling speedo seems to be a 10 mins or less fix, so I was thinking why not. Maybe I should just step away from the garage and down a few beers.  :beers:

For about the price of the cable, you can get a Sigma (or other brand) bicycle speedo. The beauty of these is they can be very accurate, have lots of features (the more you pay, the more features you tend to get). The drawbacks to them is they don't have a backllight, so you can't read them in the dark unless you rig up a secondary light and they run on a battery, so eventually it will go dead.

I can't recommend any store to buy one, but if you do a search, you should come up with plenty of options.

Who knows, maybe they even have a backlit version by now with a 12v power lead?

Sigmas are generally recommended, as you input your tyres actual circumference, whereas a lot of the other manufacturers have a range of preset bicycle tyre sizes programmed in.
I had one fitted to my B250 and it worked great, but i forgot to take it out of its clip one day while parked in town and some little phucker nicked it.

my cable just snapped
I looked down last night thinking I was doing 115 with the needle straight up, then slowed down and looked again and thought hey I'm still not doing 115.  Then it hit me the needle isn't moving = its not pointing up its dead flat down on zero.  Later at a red light I switched the tank to reserve thinking I may have mis-counted my mileage left on the tank.

I made it home, but I still need to fix this for fuel gaging purposes.
I may never sell the bike so a solid odom is probably not necessary.
If I do sell it I'll give all my maintenance receipts to the next guy.

SO, should I go digital?
I'm thinking open up the stock speedo casing, replace the bulb with an LED and mount a SIGMA inside it.

damnit, I just realized - I don't want it sealed tight in the old speedo casing because I won't be able to press the buttons!

i don't want another thing to have to carry with me or lock up before I leave my bike, but I do think better accuracy would be nice.

what does everyone think , sans my useless hillbilly engineering

1. digital ?
2. stock with a new cable?

I ended up going with the stocker.  The istnallation of teh oem cable was straight forward and a no brainer.
