Needle Jet/Emulsion Tubes Replacement?
« on: July 02, 2005, 11:14:42 AM »
How the heck do you change these things?  I'm sure it's covered in the manual but the track mastah, Cdyer, has mine.  I've got some new needles jets/tubes coming next week.  I just tore into the carbs and can't figure out how to remove them.  Man - they are worn!  I can't wait to see what difference that makes.  Thanks!

If I remember the main jet holds them in, give that a try take out the main jet and push it out.

I don't think it's even covered in the manual. Did you order jet needles (the needle like thing) or needle jets (emulsion tubes)? Or both?

It's pretty easy to tell if your old ones are knackered. Here are some links that describe what to look for:
http://www.factorypro.com/tech/needle_jet_Mikuni.html
http://66.47.68.116/tech/needle1.html

Unscrew the main jet. Get a punch and a hammer and gently tap out the emulsion tubes. Here's a sight that describes it in detail:
http://www.dansmc.com/carbs.htm

There is also a GS500 carb rebuild page. Its basically the same carb body so the pictures all apply.
http://gstwin.com/carb_work.htm

If you're removing the emulsion tubes can you do me a favor and write down the mikuni part number off the edge of the tube? It should be stamped into the brass somewhere.

Thanks, guys.

Good links, Interfuse.

It does just push out.  I just used a small phillips screwdriver and pushed.  No hammer needed.

Damn, I'm getting old.  I can't really read the numbers.  See if this helps...  6-019129.  I'm having a lot of trouble reading the fist 3 digits after the dash, though.  I'm sure of the other #s.

Oh - just caught and fixed the typo in my orig post.  I ordered the jets/tubes.  I already have adjustable TI needles from the Factory Pro TI stage 1 kit.

I just went through the same thing. So I had the links handy.

Thanks for the number. I'll wait until my extra carbs arrive and compare the number on those tubes. Then I'll check with the mikuni dealer and see if they can match the part. Suzuki takes forever to get mikuni stuff. It's like the send it over from Japan on a Suzuki powered boat which breaks down part of the way here.

I had a hard time wrapping my head around two different parts, one called Jet Needle and the other called Needle Jet. If your needle jets were worn you'll be pleasantly surprised when you get your bike back together. Made a HUGE difference for me.

Wow mine have 37000 km on them and are still like new. what the hell are you guys doing   LMAO
the part number looks like a suzuki number not a Mikuni one
the Mikuni # for the jet needle is 5EZ74 and 0-9 for the needle jet  for the US carbs.
On the 33mm carbs the jet needle is a 5EZ68- 3rd and the needle jet is a P-O

I got 36k on mine before problems started getting unbearable. Even though dynojet and factorypro deny it, I think the jet kits are harder on your needle jets then the stock mikuni parts. Also I do a lot of city driving (stop and go) which means the jet needles are always in motion. Wait until I take a picture of my jet needles slide wear. The needle is almost sheared in two.

The P-0 for the needle jet refers to the orifice diameter (which is 2.650mm). But the Suzuki manual doesn't tell you the mikuni needle jet series number. Which you need if you want to order the parts directly from mikuni. The number Rob gave me left more questions then answers. When my spare set of carbs arrive I'm going to take a needle jet to the mikuni dealer and see if they can match it for me. I'll keep you posted on how that goes.

The series number would be the same. The US verion needle jet has an orifice diamter O-9 which is 2.645mm. Only .005mm difference from the 33mm version. Once I figure out what the needle jet is I'll post it so you can bypass Suzuki when ordering carb parts.
