its a gsf400vp

symptoms include....

running rough at idle
idle having to be set really high
the bike just sounds like its running rough...

errrm

First thing I'd check is that the bike running on all 4. Start the bike up and let it idle for a few minutes. Then carefully/quickly touch each of the header pipes and make sure they're all getting hot.

If all the pipes are getting hot. I'd try doing a carb sync. If your tach needle bounces around at idle chances are your bike will run a lot smoother after a carb sync.

If the above suguestions don't solve your woes, then you are looking at opening up the carb and seeing what's worn... if you don't feel comfortable doing that, I'd recommend taking it to a shop who knows what they're doing.

Hey Jay,
I'm not trying to step on your sales as that's a very good shipped price. It just seems that people (I know that I did) think that these parts are no longer obtanium from the regular dealer/online (the whole needle jet, jet needle, needle, jet, jet, needle thing). They are. The part that is no longer obtainium from Suzuki is obtainium from Factory Pro - and adjustable at that :).
I'm trying to make up my mind what parts I want to lay in for the future and these are being considered.

Hey jcmjrt, which part are you referring to as unobtanium from Suzuki?
Since you mentioned adjustable, I am guessing that it is the needles that are no longer available from Suzuki?Or am I confused?

Anyways, $76.00 shipped is definately a good price. :)

It's least likely to cause confusion if you refer to the parts fiche (which is available as a sticky up top here) in the 3 page carb section. The unobtainium from Suzuki parts that I know about are #12 and #28 California Only. The other two types of #28 for Model M/N and Model P are available. A substitute for #12 is available from Factory Pro - the adjustable needle in their rejet kit.

Needle jets (emulsion tubes) the jet needle runs thru this.
jet needle (needle) this is usually adjustable and what comes in a jet kit
slow jet (pilot jet) this is the jet that controls from 1/8 throttle to @ 1/2 and is the smallest jet in the float bowl
main jet -connected to the emulsion tube and what feeds the needle and also the biggest jet in the float bowl
fuel / air screws these can be on the top ,bottum, side of any carb and vary in turns from 1/8th to 3 1/2 and control idle to just off idle
