New bandit. Sound familiar?

So just a few days after starting what i though would be a long search I found out a friend had a 400 bandit for sale for cheap. 

I am buying it regardless, but...

He tells me that he hasn't ridden for a while but that last few times he road it after being ridden hard it wouldn't idle.  My first though was idle air screws/ o-rings.

Does this scenario sound familiar to any one?

He didn't say it was fast...  it won't idle. 

   Look around here a bit.  You'll quickly learn what the typical problems are.  Check and see if it's dropping a cylinder or two.  When the spade coil connectors on my B4 started to go bad, it would only happen when hot.  I guess the heat expanded those stupid things enough that they wouldn't make good contact.  Same could be happening with the crappy HT leads.  If all 4 are still firing... it's a carb issue of some sort...  Good luck

HEY!  It was early!  I meant the spade connectors on the coils!

Yes, it does.
Send me the ignition box, coils, and rectifier.
Park the bike about 60 ft from the house.
Get the gas can.
Pour gas all over the B4.
Throw a lit match at it.
This will save you a ton of grief.

Grief is why I've only ridden 3 times this year and haven't even looked at my bike in a month.

It is a 16 year old bike that sat. Problems are to be expected. I've learned that even for free, an old bike might not be worth it. Depends on whether you like riding over wrenching. I sit here pondering when to buy my $500 gas tank as who knows when the old one will let go. That is on top of multiple carbs, starters, brakes, many hours of labor, etc.

The good part is it runs and can be ridden. Idle might be as simple as turning a screw a 1/4 turn and new plugs. Or more likely a carb clean.
