Bandit 400vv's....question
« on: July 12, 2007, 01:43:47 PM »
I was looking at some pics of Bandits, and came across this one:

I know its HEAVILY modded (and REALLY nice!), but I can see it started as a 93+ VV model (is that correct)?

It seems to have a sleeker tank and side air scoops....

Does that tank fit older models? What other differences do they have (besides VV engine)?

It looks like a 2nd gen (95+ ?) model - 400VV. The rear bit of the side covers is more pointy.

I'm pretty sure the tank and frame are a different shape on the 2G. Certainly the seat is different from my 1G.

A lot of money thrown at that bike (usd front, ohlins rear, carbon can, etc). Probably more than the guy paid for the bike in the first place.

I think you're right that the 2Gs are 95+.  I think they're beautiful.  I have no idea of interchangability.  I am pretty sure Her Tod has the intention of putting a 2G tank on his 1G B4.  I don't remember if he has the tank or not.  I'm sure he'll see this and post up.

I have that tank in my parts basement, it can be made to fit. The part that slides into the front of the frame is different. It also has an extra hole for the fuel gauge. It doesn't follow the frame exactly like the 1st gen tank does but it's not really significant. The side covers consist of two parts, the silver covers are one part, the black inside is attached to the airbox. I'm planning on using the 2nd gen tank, airbox and side covers with a TL 1000 S tail.

Other differances are the swingarm, the tail which is a one piece tail and not 3 pieces like the 1st gen. Cockpit, seat, frame is a bit different around the engine and around the footrest plate area, the 1st gen has a plate that covers the frame while the 2nd gen only has a 2 arm support for the footrest, that's why they had to make the frame look nice instead of just using a simple steel plate. Passenger footrests are different. You could say everything is different, it's all in the details.

wow, she's pretty!

is that a hydraulic clutch? It looks like a cable coming out of the lever, but what the heck are those hoses going in the left side there?

Punctuation really helps! I'm pretty sure this is what Jay means:

No, regular clutch. That's a catch tank for oil spray, just some bling.

On the big jets @ work, you can stand right next to the pressure fueling hose hook-up, if it overfills, it vents out near the wingtip.

You'd never want to have to fill one up thru the gas caps on the top of the wing, you'd retire before the tank got full.
