Rear fairing mounting peg snapped.
« on: August 18, 2005, 11:05:21 AM »
One of the mounting pegs on my rear fairing has snapped off. Do you think its possible to epoxy it back on? Is there a better way to re-attach it?

BTW - If you do an "unfiltered" image search on Yahoo for "duct tape" you come up with some REALLY interesting stuff, if not totally appropriate on your work computer.   :duh:

Seriously...  I'd check with an auto body shop or supply store and see if they have any ideas.

One of the mounting pegs on my rear fairing

Which piece is this?  The small little one in between the two longer pieces? Or one of the ones on a longer piece?  When the BF snapped my right rear fairing piece into 4 pieces I had it plastic welded.  Other options were www.quarical.com They're a company in Calgary AB that sells a fairing repair kit, and a friend in Texas suggested that I try a two part epoxy.

I didn't realize I was going to start a duct tape thread. Y'all have been watching too much Red Green.

The outside shell of the fairing is all intact. The only piece that snapped was a little mounting peg that holds the fairing onto the frame. Its located inside the fairing on the left hand side under the seat.  I think I'm going to give the 2 part epoxy a try.

How on earth did he snap it into 4 pieces? That plastic is pretty strong.

We were moving her in the winter into storage. The place we were living was a "bad place" so she wasn't safe.  I was pushing her into storage from the bars, and he was pushing from the back.  He had her by the frame rail below it, and his hand slipped.  I heard this awful cracking sound from behind me,.. and,.. the bad person that I am thought briefly, Tell me that was a femer (sp?) ...   When I turned around, he was holding one piece, and trying to pick up another.  When I saw what happened, it felt like someone punched me in the stomach.

Ouch. That sucks. Mines hit the ground pretty hard and never broke. It fixed up okay though? I've always wanted to stick a different tail fairing on my bike. Just waiting for the right ducati or aprilia tail to come up on ebay.
