Seat Lock
« on: April 30, 2005, 12:23:27 AM »
Gotta quick question for everyone,

The seat lock on the GSF400, is it specifically keyed to the ignition key, or will any Suzuki ignition key work from the same period? Man reason I ask is that my key has gone MIA and I'm afraid it'll be remaining so. A new ignition switch comes with a key, but that won't help with the seat lock. I can get a new seat lock... for $95...

Then I'd have three keys. Which is a bit extreme, I think.

Can it be re-keyed at a locksmith, perhaps?

Should be able to be rekeyed by a Smith.

Don't know about the 400, but for the 600/1200, you can buy a lockset that includes the seat lock, gas lock and ignition switch - all with the same key. Found that out when I lost both of my keys and thought I was gonna have to do that... but it turned out the key # was on my paperwork and the dealer was able to make me new keys.

Are B4 seats a hot item on the black market?  I hope not.  My seat latch release is just the lead ball at the end of the cable.  Pull and the seat comes off.  Might be an option if you're not worried about those dangerous B4 seat thieves we've all hear so much about.   :stickpoke:

Same with me.  I just tuck away the seat release cable up under the fender.  No one will ever know it is there.  We don't need no stinking seat release keys, he, he.

I'll probally do the same then. I just really liked the helmet lock.

Maybe I'll tear the unit apart and see if I can't break the lock so that anything stuck in there will make it work. that way I get my seat lock, and it looks like it's locked...

Don't need no fools stealing my battery!

That's a good point...I do miss the helmet lock, I guess that I have just gotten used to carrying my helmet around with me.
