How do i adjust the cam chain tensioner?
« on: July 16, 2005, 09:18:48 PM »
Hello all.

I've read lots of posts mentioning cam chain adjustment but can't seem to find any info on how to do it!

Could someone please guide me through how to adjust the cam chain tensioner on my B4?

 :thanks:

Yep, about all you can do with the automatic one is check it for function. Of course, a lot of people put manual adjusters on if the automatic one goes bad, I'm not sure why. The automatic one only costs like $5 more and you don't have to futz with it.

Thanks for the replys guys :beers:

I understand that it has an automatic adjuster but I want to have a look anyway - got a nasty rattle at around 4k rpm you see. I'm pretty sure its coming from the cam chain, its almost like its fine when the revs are going up but as soon as I let off the throttle and the revs drop down the rattle begins. Unless I'm not thinking about it right im guessing the noise is happening because the chain is going slack as the revs drop?

So if anyone could tell me or point me in the right direction for instructions on how to get to it that would be great. If the worse came to the worse is it a big job to replace?

Thanks again!
