Any pics of 2nd Gen B4 clocks and warning lights
« on: September 25, 2006, 03:05:03 PM »
Hi I`ve got a 95 B4 but the problem is my bike does not have a warning light for oil pressure or water temp as indicated by the wiring diagram. It only has a light for neutral, two for turn signals and one for high beam light. Can anybody with a 2nd gen bandit please post me a pic of theirs, or anybody else with a pic available.

Thanks  :beers:

Thanks for the pic, for some reason mine does not have the oil light and the temp light in the clocks like the ones on the pic. Supposedly on mine they are should be right next to the rev counter needle on either sides, between the needle and the screws but there isn't anything at the moment except for two tiny holes with nothing in them. I,ll just have to open the clocks up and check whether the wires are still there and try to find some new lights to put inside. If anybody knows of this or has seen these let me know please.

Thanks

wow, a fuel gague!!! On a bandit 400!! That's exactly what I need. I had no idea they done them for the B4s!

Could you take the gague from a 2nd gen and stick it on a 1st gen bandit?

If so, I gotta get me one of those!

Keep in mind on most motorcycle there is a mechanism within the gastank that facilitates a fuel gauge.  You access this mechanism (float) through the bottom of the tank via an opening.  Thus if you wanted to install a gauge in your bike you also might need to update the entire tank.  Probably not cheap.

I have a 2nd gen tank in my basement. It has an extra hole for the fuel gauge mechanism.

so you couldn't just get the gague and the mechanism, and put the machanism into the 1st gen tank and hook it up that way?

I suppose I would need to replace my own clocks too, cause it looks like the gague and the clocks are a 1 piece set. And I'd probably need to replace the bt below it too, with the warning lights and indicator lights, cause the 1st gen one is a different shape, so the fuel gague wouldn't fit into place properly.

I guess it's not worth all the hassle. It'd just be soooo good to be able to check how much fuel you have just by looking down, instead of having to open the tank and look inside. Ah well. I wonder if there are any universal type fuel gagues/mechanisms which I could buy and stick straight onto my bandit?

I'm only posting this just in case you've not thought of it... I (and most folks, I guess) use the trip odometer as a fuel gauge. I know that I get approx. 42 mpg and the tank holds 3.8 gallons so thats  42 * 3.8 = 159.6 miles to bone dry. I reset the trip odometer to 0.0 at every fillup and consider it "on empty" at 130 miles and start looking for gas. This gives me plenty of "reserve" before I hit real reserve and have to strip the carbs ;-).

If I am telling you something you obviously already know, please ignore this and accept my apologies :-0

lol, thanks for the suggestion, but you're right, I allready knew it.

I'd just like an easier way though, like a gague!

I might start using your method when I get my bike back on the road.... which wont be long!

No it's not for sale. You also need a 2nd gen seat and plastics to make it fit. Probably some other modifications as well. I am working on my second bike now so I don't need the Bandit anymore for daily transport. This winter I'm going to transform the Bandit, to be continued...
