B12 Rear Shock

First, let me apologise because I think this topic may have been BEATEN TO DEATH before, maybe on the old board, but I can't seem to find the info now. Rob said in another thread that a B12 rear shock will bolt right on to a B4. Can I ask you a couple of questions about this Rob? I wanted to know if there is any change in ride height with the B12 shock. Also, what years of B12 will the shock fit from,  and finally, what specifically is better about the B12 shock? My stock one is working fine right now, but I am always open for some cheap performance improvements.

We had a great discussion of that on the old board right here.  I forgot to take before and after height adjustments.  It's definitely a little taller but seems to be in no way a radical change.  My shock actually was Red01/Paul's from his 2G B12.  

The B4 shock is just really soft.  I wanted get the rear more in synch with the front where I have upgraded, stiffer springs.  I still have less than 100 miles on the new set-up but the bike seems to be better planted with it.

One other note - to somewhat off-set the rise in tail height, I went one series down in the profile of my rear tire - to a 60 series.  There are more 150/60 tire options out there anyway so I'm a happy guy!

I put a 91 GSXR 750 shock in my bike and it didn't change the ride height.

Thief, can you tell me some more about your swap? Did the GSXR shock just bolt in, and are you happy with the results?

You couldn't find it because the search function on the old board SUCKS.  It took me forever to find it.  I put it in the FAQs here.

On the GSXR shocks, check out this FAQ thread for some good info from the old board.

The GSXR shock works great well worth the change over , and yes it bolted right in

Got my GSXR 750 shock installed last weekend! Installation was mostly a piece of cake. I have only adjusted preload so far, and it already feels way better than the stock shock. Thanks for all the info guys. :thanks:
Which brings me to my NEXT question. Doe anyone know of an online guide for tweaking the other adjustments?

Just an update on my B12 shock upgrade.

What a huge improvement!  I've now got about 1500 combined highway/twisty miles on it.  On Interstates, when you hit those transitions to bridges or whatever, the orig shock always felt like it wanted to buck me off.  This thing just takes it in stride.  Twisties?  Wow!  Down at the BOSS rally, we had a "fast group" hitting some fun stuff.  We hit this really tight, technical section that was also very bumpy.  With the old shock, I would have been forced to lay back a bit b/c my back wheel would have chattered too much through the bumps.  Once I realized that was not going to be a problem anymore, I ran right up with the lead pack of B12s.  That 6 or 7 miles was the most fun I've had on the bike yet.  

It has to be the best bang for the buck mod out there for the B4.

Check out the thread in the FAQ.

It will fit but w/ stock bones, it will drop the rear a tiny bit.
