Does anyone know what size spanner wrench is required for the Steering Stem nut? I have a buddy at a dealership, they don't have the same one as the Part number in the Shop manual but he looked it up and its like $70.00 his cost. I was just wondering if anyone knew what size it is so I can pass it along to him so he can grab me the one they do have, and i wont have to buy the Suzuki part?

By steering stem nut do you mean the nut on top of the tree clamp for the forks, right under the handle bars? I am not sure what I spanner wrench is but I used a 30 mm Socket for mine (93 suzuki bandit 400). Sorry if this is not what you are looking for and I sound like a complete moron.

No, I already got the 30mm nut off. It's the round one with 4 notches under the top triple clamp. A spanner wrench is whats used on this type of nut. Coilovers on cars and things of that sort use them.

Shawn - have you checked the manual? It's usually pretty good about listing what you need. If you head over to the Members forum on this BBS, there are links to on-line versions of the manual.

I've checked the manual all it gives is a part# for the tool. My buddy at the dealership looked it up in their computer, gave him a price but no size. I was only asking here cause holding up the frame and positioning the front end by myself was a PITA. Currently the nut is hand tight to hold the front end on. I'm just gonna have to take it back off and give it to my buddy so he can match it up to a tool they have in the shop I guess.

A punch and a hammer huh (thats not the first time thats been suggested). Well im not trying to get it off I,m trying to get it back on. Is the torque spec the manual calls out all that important? Or should i get this one tight enough so the steering feels good and torque the hell outa the one on top of the triple?

Suprisingly it was only hand tight when I pulled the front end apart.

Kind of scared me for a moment, was wondering just what kind of a deal did I get on this thing.

if ya got the front jacked up off the ground it is to be tight enough that it moves back and forth freeely and from straight it should go to on side and bounce but not move far i never torque mine but ive been doing it for 13 years !
