Throttle cable substitution?
« on: May 19, 2005, 05:26:38 PM »
My bike has been sitting at the shop for 2 weeks because of a broken throttle cable. The parts have been ordered but they aren't showing up! Just wondering if anyone has ever used a throttle cable from a different bike?

I'm thinking the Katana cable might be similar. And I could probably find one at the breakers. Thanks!

Damn - that sucks.  I didn't have any problems finding one a year ago so ago.  You may want to check Bike Bandit and see if any other bikes carry the same part number for your salvage yard search.  Have fun!!!!!

I called the stealer today and still no parts... everything I've ordered lately has been a hassle to get.

I checked bikebandit and all the part numbers are different...

Ah, the joys of a low-volume, long-out-of-production bike!  I checked the GS500, too.  No luck.

Bike Bandit's site doesn't use OEM p/n's - a self-defense measure to help keep you from price shopping with their competition. But if you have the patience to search various other Suzukis, if something has the same OEM # it should have the same number in BB's system (though it won't be the OEM #).

Well I went to the shop today to grab my throttle cable so I could scavange parts at a slavage yard. Only to find my bike up on a bench, in about a million pieces. Needless to say I wasn't a happy camper, seeing they've had the bike for almost 3 weeks now.

So another bikeless weekend for me...

Hey i really know how your feeling. Although my bike was only in for 2 weeks (waiting for fork seals) its my only mode of transport. Ive been able to get myself to work for the last 6 years now, its like my own little bit of independance. So when i had to rely on the bus and my boss with the works car to get me to work it felt awful. I constantly had to call the guy at the garage for updates as he couldnt even be bothered to call me to let me know what was going on. One good thing though, when i finally did get it back i realised just how much i had missed it and have enjoyed riding to work and back (all 6 miles!!) even more than usual!
I hope you get it back soon.
