OK, a while back I posted about my Bandito not idling when hot (but fine when cold), lack of power, etc. I also bemoaned the fact that I'd have to sync the carbs (which I've never done before) and clean it out , etc. On removing the tank just now I saw that the choke sliders don't return all the way into the carbs with the choke lever pushed forward all the way. How severe would the spluttering/rough idling and lack of power be with the choke open a little bit when the engine's running on temperature? If this could be the simple solution, I'll take it, I'm not exactly the world's greatest mechanic.

Any suggestions/comments?

A choke stuck partly open can cause all the things you just mentioned.

yeah i had the same problem
gunk gets in there
wires get caught on it
had all the problems you mentioned

clean it up as much as you can

warm it up sitting still
then before you get rolling
just make sure its pushed all the way back in

Yeah, solved the problem all right. It's always nice to discover something menial wrong when you can already see a huge job waiting.... but she's running brilliantly now, so for now its crisis avoided. The wire snagged on a small wood chip (don't ask me how it got up there, I don't use her for MX. Promise

)
