How nice, Suzuki made a part improvement...
« on: May 18, 2006, 05:14:12 PM »
A combination of a gorilla mechanic and inept tool user led to me ruining my inspection cover (for turning the crank while doing valve lash adjustments)...  so I ordered a new one with o-ring (whopping $9 from my local dealer) and found a rather nice improvement:

Old on the left (needing a drag-link to remove, too many inept tool users ruin these things with Lord knows what ~ I've had to replace lots on different bikes), new on the right..  uses a 10mm allen, kinda hard to F-up

And even the back side looks like it has more 'substance' to it, which means it'll be hard to twist the center out (something I've personally done):

Just nice to replace something and have a Better part go on than came off.
Cheers,

Brian, you're talking a foreign language to my ears with regard to that part and what it does, but I do appreciate you posting pix for everyone to see and sharing the good news.  It is rare and satisfying that something gets better instead of just cheaper.  Nice!

Sven, look at the right side of your engine, there's one of those 2 plugs scrwed into the middle.  You take it out/off to uncover the end of the crankshaft so you can turn the engine over by hand.  This allows you to adjust the valve clearances...   kind of a necessity for the well being of the engine.  :)

Dumb, simple little part that caused me an hour of frustration and $10 to resolve.
Cheers,

Thanks for the explanation.  I'm not much of a gearhead, but I'm trying to learn.

Well how 'bout that!  Nicely done, Zuk.

Sven - I'm sure your 12 is pretty different.

I think they changed this part when the GK7AA model was built.
