stroke enlarging?
« on: December 13, 2006, 06:41:29 PM »
i just came across some gsxr400 specifications and noticed that the the 1984 model has a different stroke and bore 53x 45,2mm instead of 56x40,4mm

is this an entire different engine or is it very similar to the "new" model, because in my daydream i was mounting such a crankshaft in my B4 to make it 445cc (or a very nice 494cc with the 59mm big-bore kit)

the rod doesnt do anything for the stroke.

the length of the rod changes the following things:
- weight (lighter, hence shorter gives more power)
- forces on the cilinderwalls (leibaankrachten in dutch; the longer the better, because the angle of the rod is smaller)
- height of the cilinders, because a longer rod will mean the piston is located higher

if you want the rod to influence the stroke....    get a rod which is made from aluminium. it will be softer and because of that it will strech more when at the top and it will shorten more when at the bottom, giving a bit more stroke  :stickpoke:
and it wont be able to withstand the forces very long so it will break very soon...
