Hi all,

This may seem like a stupid question, but what is the keyhole on the side of the bike for? I've turned it this way and that, but no luck. I thought it might be for underseat storage, but a quick google confirms there is none.

It's the seat lock, turn it forward and lift up on the seat. Turn it backwards like a screw and the bottom of it should open, it's also a helmet lock!

can't get seat to lift up. right, time for glaringly obvious instructions please, cz i dont want to damage the seat. turn the key counter-clockwise, then what?

Let me see, I may be wrong...

The key turns two directions. In one direction it will rotate quite a bit, in the other it's just a little. That is the direction that should release the seat latch. Lift up on the seat at this point, from the front (near the gastank). If it doesn't come off, then either the latch is jammed or the cable has broken.

Try pushing down on the front of the seat to relieve some pressure on the latch while you're turning the key. Otherwise, just hold the key turned and pound on the front of the seat with your fist. Once it releases, grab the front of the seat and pull up. Basically the same technique as opening a stuck hood on a car.
