Ok, the bike is still under warranty and I've left the motor completely stock so far and have ridden 2,600miles on it since I bought it on 9/29. And it has all the wonderful California plumbing intact.

The problem
It starts and appears to run fine on choke until warm. Shut choke, idles fine. Mount and ride, seems ok. Then about 2-3 blocks from the house it's as if somebody shut the fuel off. Pull over to side, restart, then sputter back home. If I don't have do much other than idle it'll almost run. But once I have to open the throttle some she just seems to run outa gas.

Now, I've owned a lot of bikes and am pretty mechanically adept and have removed tank and verified that the petcock indeed opens fine with vaccuum applied. But that is all I've done as I've returned it to the dealer since correctly, they should fix it. We'll see.

Anyway, was wondering if anyone else experienced the same issue and what was the outcome, problem and repair. Thanks in advance.

On my 2003 Bandit 1200 I had the same symptoms -- it turned out to be the tank bag. It was cutting off air to the gas cap. With a few modifications it was cured, just cut a path in the tank bag pad for air to reach the gas cap.

You may have a plugged vent in the gas cap too.

Just a thought.

Your tank should be venting thru a hose.

Make sure that your fuel lines are routed properly and are not kinked or pinched. If this occurs the bike will idle fine, and at lower rev's run fine, but when you open it up it will act as if it is out of gas.

I just did this on my SV, i had a feul hose routed so it was only kinked when the tank was down, when you lifted up the tank to check it looked fine.
Same symptoms, it'd idle fine, but run out of fuel as soon as the engine was under load. its restart after a few mins once the float bowls filled again, then cut out just down the road.

Has anyone had your tank off? changing plugs or for other maintenance.

The dealer just stated they re-routed some vaccuum hoses. Hmm, they serviced it last! At any rate it's fixed now, no harm no fowl
