2001 1200s gas tank

Hey guys, this is my first post and I am sorry if this has been addressed already, but I couldnt find it. I have a 01 1200s and was wondering if a 00 1200 gas tank would fit on it. Or even one off of a smaller bandit. Also, is the 00 and 01 red paint the same shade. Thanks a lot guys this site is great.

No, a 1st Generation ('00 or older) 1200 tank will not fit a 2G (2001-2005) 1200. They are shaped differently to fit different frames.

Yes, a tank from a 600 will fit, if the 600 is a 2G (2000-2004)... but the 600's didn't all have gas gauges, so if it's an earlier one, it won't have provisions for a sending unit. I forget which year they finally got a gauge, maybe 2002 or 2003?

Also, is the 00 and 01 red paint the same shade. Thanks a lot guys this site is great.

No, they are close, but not the same. The 2000 is Candy Acadamy Maroon, code 22U, the 2001 is Candy Velvety Maroon, code YC6.
