2001 GSF600S newbe needs help....

i have been looking through miles of websites and think i need some help...

the holeshot stage 1 modified jet kit sounds good...

i would like to go with a 48-50 tooth rear sprocket....keeping the front and chain as they are(OEM)....does anyone have a link to a good/cheap site?....and what kind of chain is the OEM?

...also am in need of muffler to go with the stage 1 mod kit....is there a good muffler out there under 300$$$$.....or even under 200$.......can the stock muffler be modified some way to keep me from buying a new one?

You aren't going to be able to go up 3 or more teeth on the rear sprocket and keep the stock chain. It will be too short. You can usually go up 1 or 2 though. You can get essentially the same gearing as going up 3 teeth in the rear by dropping a tooth up front and that will allow you to keep the stock length chain.

As for a cheap muffler, keep an eye out on eBay as well as the classifieds of this and other Bandit boards. Aftermarket B12 cans (any year) will work on the 600, too - as long as they come with a mid-pipe (ie; slip-on, not bolt-on). A B12 bolt-on can will work,too - if you have the matching B12 mid-pipe - and these are generation specific. Since the 600's muffler is welded to the mid-pipe, any kind of gutting will be difficult. If you're lucky enough to find the stuff, a Suzuki RF900's stock can with a 2000 or older (1G) B12 mid-pipe will give you more power and a healthier tone than the stock Bandit piece, but will not be quite as powerful as an aftermarket slip-on setup.

                two teeth on the sprocket will be just fine....when ordering the spocket whats the deal with the chains...520-530...i have seen several #'s for the chain....i'm not sure what the stock chain is...or does it matter?

            ...also the muffler info you gave is just what i was looking for...would the stock B12 give me enough exhaust flow to count as a aftermarket hopup muffler on my B6...? it seems as it should since the motor on the B12 is twice the size...

The link worked fine for me... if you buy that, you'll need a mid-pipe from a 2000 or older B12.
(I corrected the mistake in the above post where it used to say 1999.)

The numbers 520 & 530 refer to the size of the chain. The stock chain & sprockets are #530. A 520 chain is smaller/lighter. If you change to a 520, you have to change the chain and both sprockets as a matching set. This is something racers do to shave a little weight. For the average rider, stick with the stock sized stuff, it'll last longer.
