I'm thinking of upgradeing my battery to a Optumus or Westco battery. Neither list the B-12, both list the B-6. Are the B-12 and B-6 batterys the same size?

Ron Ayers on line microfiche says no, but they do have a "What does this fit" look up option on their web page. This is the 1200s part number and what it fits.

No... their different.

B12 = YTX12-BS
B6 = YTX9-BS

Are you sure the stock battery is an AGM type battery, not a sealed lead-acid?

I did find a cross referance to the Westco 12V12-B. Turns out the new sv 650s use the same battery as the B-12. Found a listing that way.

The stock Yuasa YTX12-BS is a AGM battery. All of Yuasa's (current) maintenance-free batteries are AGM according to their web site.

Also, according to their web site, there are a LOT of bikes and several quads and even a few Honda scooters that use the same battery as the B12.

Hmmm, ok. Let me back up then and discribe what I'm trying to fix on my B-12. My battery seems weak, won't roll my motor over when it's below about 40 degrees, when I sit at a stop light with my turn signal and electric vest on my headlight blinks with the turn signal, I know that means my rpm's are too low for the altanator to charge the battery so I'm looking for a battery with more reserve and cold cranking amps. Wonder if I wire the low beam thru a relay so my headlight doesn't come on untill my motor is running if that will help the cold starting? I have one of those 65 watt silverstar low beams, wonder if I should go to a lower watt bulb? A better battery seemed like an easy fix, but mayby I'm on the wrong track. The reason I started looking at the electrical system is I want to add a pair of 35 watt Trail Tec lights to use as cornering lights.

AAAHHHHHHHHHH, more will be revealed! Yea sounds like you have a lot going on there. I would say the vest is the killer. HEAT=Direct Short, I don't know all of the spec's of the vest but I would say that would be the biggest prob. and it sounds like you do a lot stop and go riding. I think Stormi (miss spell?) had some info on upgraded charging systems. I would also look at the Yuasa web site

and look for a physical size (big or small) that will give you more cranking amps.
If I remember right I saw some high cranking batteries. That were a bit smaller... then check it to make sure connections (side-top-left-right) will be alright for you as far as if the cables will reach OK. I have a "bigger" battery in my 2001 and I cannot put my tool/hoedown tray back in the bike.
