2002 B12 stock muffler to a 2000 B6?

Hi all,

Will a stock muffler from a 2nd generation 2002 B12, fit properly on a 2nd gen 2000 B6?
Is it a direct bolt on?  Will I have to rejet or make any modifications if installed?

My buddy Red01 is seldom wrong...but IIRC the 2000 2nd Gen 1200 aluminium muffler is a 3 bolt affair onto the midpipe? The 2nd Gen 600's all used a welded mid pipe to can connection (certainly my 02-600 can is welded to the mid-pipe.)

I don't think you can "unbolt" a 600 muffler (you CAN cut it off). But I stand to be corrected.

The actual swap will be the muffler plus midpipe.
So it will be the whole welded unit of my B6 being replaced by the 3bolt affair of the B12
including the midpipe elbow. 

Any idea if this swap will improve performance?

Assuming everything is still stock.... jetting-wise, I doubt there'll be much improvement between the two stock cans.  Both stock cans are very restrictive to meet emission requirements.  I guess the real question is which can is less restrictive...

Exactly why are you doing this swap?

The previous owner on my B6 went down on its' right side, and there's a dent right
under the rear brake master cylinder on the mid-pipe.  I was wondering if that was a
stock indentation from the manufacturer, to make room for that master cylinder. 
After looking at the schematic diagram on BikeBandit, it show's 2 indetations not 3 as in the B12 schematic.

So I assume that dent was created by a fall driving the pipe upward toward the master cylinder.

Although on the B12 exploded diagram schematic there is one, the 3rd indentation closest to the muffler.

Can anyone let me know if their B6 midpipe, has this 3rd indentation, right under the rear master cylinder.

If it was there as a result of a crash, does it affect my B6's performance?
I feel that my bike is running very well, and rpm's and speeds to spec, but can an imperfection
like a dent in the exaust system affect or hinder the B6's performance.

This is why I'm considering swapping muffler and pipes, plus there's one available locally from a B12.

In a word, no.

The stock exhaust... even by stock exhaust standards... is a rotten performance product.  It's very restrictive.

If you're getting the B12 muffler for free, and have some time to see if it fits, go for it.

But if you're paying more than $50 or so for it... I'd just take a pass and get a good aftermarket muffler (new or used) from Yoshimura, Holeshot, etc.  That will uncork the restrictive stock set up.  (A jet kit would help too)

I've decided to save my money and get an aftermarket unit later on,
since my my B6 stock exhaust is working fine, and won't really be an upgrade
with the B12 unit.
