2G 1200N Oil Cooler
« on: September 14, 2009, 08:53:17 AM »
I'm in an area where no one thinks they can fix the hairline crack that is on my 2G 1200N cooler. I don't have the $500. to replace it with oem,so I did  the JB Weld without sucsess. Does anyone know what else can I do since 1G 1200 is a different set up where the cooler and pipes join. That's too bad, ebay has replacements for G1 1200 & 600 for $175.
I'm disparate enough to try something universal at this point.
All suggestion will be appreciated.
Thnx,
Brad

You could use the 1G cooler with 1G oil lines, but it is a smaller cooler than the OE 2G one.  Also, some have adapted early GSXR750 or 1100 coolers (which are bigger than the 2G's OE cooler).

How did it get the crack, i.e. it is not something that will happen again, is it?
Have you tried taking it to a plumber to see if it can be brazed?  Maybe with silver solder?

Not sure how it cracked but,the welders and radiator shops said they cant do it because of location of fracture that had to be detected at a machine shop under pressure and under solvent tub. The repair shops said the aluminum was too thin and too much heat could make it worse.
I had to bite the big one and bye a hassle free oem unit for 450.00, ouch!!!!!!!!!!

Give these guys a call, I've heard good things about them: http://www.motorcycleradiators.com/  Dunno if they do oil coolers too, but it's worth a call.

If you get any feedback on them, please post.
There is a second gen Bandit on ebay right now.  Bigger oil cooler, though.

You could buy a new replacement from Delkevic for about $150.
