750 Katana Motor
« on: January 23, 2008, 08:49:38 PM »
Well I broke down and finally bought a 97 katana 750 motor to swap into my B6. I have a set of slingshot 750 cams lying around and was wondering if I'd see any significant gains by swapping cams. The GSXR750 makes 112hp at 11k RPM whereas the Kat750 makes 106hp at 10.5k RPM. For this swap I'm also using a B12 header and carbs. Think the cam swap is worth the hassle?

The 750 Katana was a hybrid of the Katana 600 and the GSXR750. The engine was lifted directly from the 1988 Gixxer, and modified for a smoother, and lower, torque curve.

I would think that the GSXR cams would be well worth the time and efford. :beers:

What are you going to do with your 600 motor? Is it in good shape?
Got a friend in Kansas might be looking for one

My 600 motor has around 13,700 miles. Never had a single mechanical problem, no leaks or anything. I was gonna use it for a go kart project but if he makes a reasonable offer I'd be willing to part with it.

I can get a great deal on a set of 2G B12 carbs with an assortment of main jets. Will it be a problem putting 2G B12 carbs that use a TPS on my 1G? I plan on running pods anyways.

Ok so its been 8 days since the auction for the motor ended. The guy told me he was going to post it on uship.com to find a shipper. He should have gotten my money order at the beginning of the week, so I know he can't be waiting on that still. I've been checking the website to see if it's been posted yet and it hasn't. I've been emailing the guy to see what's going on and he hasn't een responding. I know he's a member over at katriders.com. I requested his phone number through ebay and am going to call him tonight if I get no response today. Any advice what to do? There's no insurance since I paid with a money order so I can't take up a dispute through paypal. I'm really starting to get frustrated.

You mailed him the MO, right?

Failure for him to deliver is a federal offense and is Mail Fraud!

Awesome! Thanks for that bit of information! I filed a dispute through ebay but now I know I can do more! I tried calling him but apparently his number no longer works. I think I'll send him a message through katriders and let him know I mean business.

Well I finally got a message from the guy today. He said the shipping is all lined up. I actually got his "real" phone number now. I guess the ebay dispute scared him. Hopefully I get this motor fairly soon. I want go over every inch of this motor so I can determine whether or not it's going to need a rebuild. Is there anything I should keep an eye out for during my inspection?

Lol thats what I was thinking. It's going in an offroad cart so it'll be alot of fun! I'm gonna fabricate a new, beefier suspension for it. Stock suspension is very inadequate.

Yes, hope everything goes well!
I have waited to post to see if your deal goes through. The guy in KS did want to know
what you might want for the 600 motor though. If you still want to sell it PM me or Brent@dragbike.com and give an asking price. I really don't know what it will be worth.
Sound like a fun go cart anyway :bigok: if you keep it!
