Can't get bar ends to to screw in!
« on: April 13, 2009, 01:02:51 AM »
Hi Guys,

I'm hoping I can get some help here. I can't get the throttle grip bar end to screw in. I can't tell if its stripped or I just don't know what I'm doing. If it is stripped any advice to getting it out.

thanks

Oh-oh... sounds like you completely unscrewed the bar end from the rubber expansion piece inside the bar.  Now the rubber piece has been pushed too far in for the threads to grab.  You'll have to get that out somehow.  I can't remember the specific fix - seem like some compressed air from the other end might help.  You could always buy a new rubber piece and just push the old one in farther.  Hopefully someone else has a better suggestion.

Thanks for the response....does the rubber piece have the bolt in it? Can I pull the rubber out some how and get in there?

Thanks again

You need to do kind of a slight "back pull" on the bar-end while tightening the screw.

This will keep the nut from spinning freely inside the handlebars by keeping it pressed up against the rubber expansion piece.  As you tighten the screw while slightly pulling out on the bar-end, it should start pulling itself in tighter toward the handlebar.

take the rubber piece out . there will be a nut behind it (it is there somewhere ) re assemble everything in your hand and slide it all back in. the back side of the nut has serrations in it to keep it from spining once there is some tension on it
