Author Topic: bad sputtering between 5,000-6,000RPM (Read 4160 times)

Just rode the bike for the first time since the wreck. I have bad sputtering between 5,000 and 6,000RPM when cranking open throttle. It's only when I'm REALLY getting on the gas.

The bike didn't do it before the accident. Trying to figure out what it could be short of a plugged up jet or maybe a float knocked loose. It really feels like it is only on 1 cylinder....as much as I can tell.

In the wreck I did bust up the ignition cover a bit. Any way I could have jacked up something in there?

I ran some carb cleaner today and it made it run just a hair better. I then put the choke on half and it ran just fine. So now I know it is a plugged jet. Don't know how the hell it happened though.

Getting the carbs off was an absolute PITA! Never want to do that again. Hopefully tomorrow I can get them cleaned out and back in the bike.

I'm going to start a new thread, but my bike is running too lean since I cut the airbox up.

Hey StangMATA!
After I got your reply on the parts. I just could not stand it any more! I got on my Bandit for the first time last monday night Sept 3. Mine did the same thing, but I guess I got lucky it quit sputtering after about a mile or so. I was able to stand my bike up after the accident in about 5 mins.
That is also the time I realized I had a broken collar bone

I did not want it to lay on its side for too long (no sealed battery).
