I am looking at a 2005 Bandit 1200 and reading all the stuff here is a real eye opener on mods. I understand the main mods are pipe,Jet kit, GSXR cams and this lifts top end but I am told by a local tuner on his dyno the midrange torque was unaffected. Is this the case and what other MINOR mods should I look at to make it grunty and tractable.

I loved my 2003 from the get go. Plenty of power and lots of mid range, but a slight stumble just off idle.

Removing the carbs and the mixture screw plugs allowed me to turn them out a half turn -- no more stumble.

A Scorpion slip-on exhaust added a bit of rumble to the exhaust note and maybe a HP or two at the most.

Lots of smooth power now with very good mid-range grunt and the abiliity to cruise at 100 MPH effortlessly. I don't do that, but once I did and then for only a minute or so, but it was easy.

My old eyes and nerves wouldn't allow it for long.

Start with a holeshot jetting kit and a pipe. These are easy, do-it-yourself mods and don't require huge amounts of $$ (depending on what type of exhaust you get). I would ride with this for awhile, I think you'll be happy. Changing cams, etc. is a lot tougher and probably a bit beyond what the do it yourselfer may want to attempt. Use the money for a good set of sport touring tires.

After about 5,000 miles you might want to upgrade the suspension. I put a set of Race tech springs and gold valves in the front and a Fox Twin Clicker in the back and it made all the differnce in the world as far as handling.

I am dumping the Triumph Daytona/Speed Triple conversion because it is just way to bloody out there! I dont need 150Hp hyper bike at 50 y.o. and the missus hates being on the back as she is sitting up on a pedestal like a pox doctor clerk! (Sorry to the Yanks, an aussie saying) I am looking at Ivan jet kit, it has a Leo Vinci slip on already, down 3 teeth on the rear, gold valves on the front springs and a Fox or something on the rear. Did I miss anything for a good torquey sprinter that lifts the front wheel at will?

If you want a "torquey sprinter that lifts the front end at will" buy a TL1000. There is nothing else that fits that statement better.

That's because the Brit's are used to ridding slow, crappy Norton's and Triumph's. It is not a novice machine.

The TL was definately a handfull- 55in wheelbase, 425lbs, and 100+ hp in a torquey V-twin config with a high, rearward CG.
I would not have rode mine with the steering damper, it is absolutely essential. I saw 135mph once at the top of 4th gear-6 speed- and that was fast enough for me.

I'll say this, it would absolutely suck the side covers off my jetted, Yosh pipe equipted 2005 B12.

I never saw any frame damage, but I did not stunt it as most people do. It offered max bang for the buck and was a blast to ride. I kinda wish I had not sold it.
