2001 Bandit 1200 axel nut
« on: September 18, 2006, 05:44:41 PM »
It's time for me to adjust my chain, but I'm having a heck of a time loosening the axel nut. I can't get it to budge!

I just want to make sure that this nut doesn't thread backwards or something...I'd hate to be tightening it!

Lefty loosey, righty tighty?

That is correct, it probably has about 70ft-lbs or more on it so its gonna take a tug to break it free.

Use a good 6pt socket and breaker bar to do the job.

I regularly take minne off with the tools that came with the bike.   I have the "right" tools but they are in the basement and I don't want to get them.  Just use the cheapo wrench and the extension.  Put it on going toward the front of the bike and use your foot to step on it.

I had the same problem not too long ago.  The breaker bar and socket did the trick with little bit of my body weight.

some doofus (at the dealer no less) had tightened mine with an impact gun. Even my mechanic had to have a couple of goes at it :duh:

Got it off...really had to put some nurtz into it though.

It sure is a lot easier to adjust the chain on my wife 1996 600cc than my 2001 1200s!
