clutch problem please help
« on: June 09, 2009, 01:23:37 PM »
hi everyone i just recently got my bike back from the dealership (98 b12) and they had put in a new clutch for me . so i am out riding it for about 20 minutes or so and the clutch started to slip really bad . When this started happening i decided to turn around  and bring it home . As soon as i got on my block the clutch just stopped working  and would not engage . My question is that has this happened to anybody else ? if so what was the problem.  i cant imagine the clutch going that fast.could this be caused from air in the hydraulic line ? should i try back bleeding the system. any information would be greatly appreciated . thank you !

+1 ...and make them come pick it up since it sounds like it is unrideable right now.

Air in the line is the most likely culprit. Mine had the same symptoms and bleeding it fixed the problem for a bit but after warming up it would slip again. Turns out there was a build up of crap in the master cylinder that was stopping the valve from closing. Cleaned it out and it has worked great ever since.

thank you for the post ill give it a try . i tried bleeding it but that didnt try . you can push the bike while it is in gear ( not holding the clutch in )with minimum resistance. any one have any idea what that would be ?

REgal guy: Get real, all the guessing in the world won't solve your problem. Someone left something loose, mis-assembled or you are the unluckiest guy on the planet. The cover has to come off and good trouble shooting take place. If you do it you are leaving the mechanic who did the job off the hook, your decision. TAKE IT BACK AND MAKE THEM DO IT RIGHT. I made my living as a scooter wrench for over 40 years, some times you screw up, if so I wanted to make it right. My rep was my bread winner, and I lived good and stayed busy.
YMMV
