Crankcase cover leaking

Yesterday my left side crankcase cover started to leak near the brass round thingy.   I haven't picked up a manual yet, so is there anything I need to look out for if I take that large cover off the left side that says "Suzuki" on it.  started as a small leak and today at work It left a dollar bill size spot.  I have drained the oil for an oil change, but can't get the oil filter off.  I guess I will need to buy a filter wrench and a gasket.  PS first oil change on new (to me) bike.

They can be difficult to pop loose, the only other thing is to remember to get the sealing washer in the right spot when you put it back together.
You can replace the gasket, or use a form-a-gasket product instead.



While you have the cover off, it's a good idea to check the starter clutch bolt. They are famous for being undertorqued and/or missing Locktite. If you don't have a service manual, you can d/l one in the Members Section of the board.

Thanks Red,  It started leaking all of a sudden.  It went from no drips to $.50 piece size to Dollar bill size in a day. I checked the allen screws and all seem tight.  I rode home about 24 miles, let sit for about 1 hour and the oil was warm when I drained it.  Seeemed pretty thin.  I had planned on changing the oil anyway.

If the oil is warm, it will be thin.

Yea I realize that, but I have about 3000 miles on this oil. thought it would be alittle thicker than it was.  It was warm to the touch, but not hot.  I do remember a clunk from under the bike. the other day.  It started fine when i came home.Hmm  I'd better check that bolt.
