Intermittant problem becoming more frequent upon starting
« on: June 10, 2015, 04:39:50 PM »
Has any one have this problem.  I push the start button, there is a clunk down in the starter area (not real sure), the gauges go through a sweep, the time resets to 01:00 and then the bike turns over.  Its a 04 1200s, 42,500 miles.  It started doing this occasionally a few years ago and now its more frequent.

I don't really know where to start looking, It is like its shorting out momentarily and then continues to start.

Thanks

Tmak

What about some mechanical problem causing being hard on it's first turn? Starter is theoretically able to pass infinite amount of current when disallowed to rotate (due to heavy load) when starting. While your battery is not able to provide that much current without dropping voltage undervoltage dims indicators and resets clock. Thus either battery is going to die or there's some mechanical problem in starter gearing. That are two options I would go after.
