Yes you do have a gear position switch. I sits right in front of your front sprocket and the wire should come up out of the sprocket cover.

I have a 1G 600 and my bike will not even turn over without the clutch pulled in, even if the side stand is up and the bike is in neutral. I would think 2G 600/1200's are the same. You could eliminate the neutral switch if the bike has started both in and out of gear.

But you might want to ask Red01 or someone to confirm.

It's #41 in the pic below:

My 2G B12 is that way, too. Clutch has to be pulled in no matter what.

Yes, yes, you're right, "the clutch has to be disengaged" regardless of what gear/neutral you are trying to start in.  I mis-remembered what has become unconscious action.

So there is no neutral safety switch?  Just the clutch switch and kickstand switch?  Well, I guess that eliminates that end of the system being the problem.

There's still a neutral safety switch, that's what tells the system you're in gear, so the sidestand would have to be up... but it sounds like the NSS isn't your issue.

Well, I owe y'all a close-out on this one.

Weekend back I took the clutch switch off, gave it a visual inspection (that is, I pushed the little button to see that it worked), made sure it was clean, and then put it back on.  Since then, the bike has started perfectly.  So I'm going to say that is a job done!

The switch is the simplest of things, not sure how it could ever go bad, other than just WEAR OUT.  It's nothing but a spring and two contacts, so there's nothing in there to go bad (like a circuit board).

I'm always glad to hear that people got their problem fixed. Using this site I have fix several that would have been hard to trouble shoot. This is a great site, friendly helpful members, and lots of knowledge. Now I know I can take mine off and clean it up!
