Anyone have pics of their Plugs to show me?
« on: April 11, 2006, 06:55:57 PM »
I wondered if anyone can pull a plug of their Bandit 1200 so I can do a comparison check to see if I'm running a little rich on the needle(which I feel I am). When I get home I'll post a pic of one of my plugs as a reference since I've adjusted all the plugs to be the same colour. I've done a search and can't seem to find a post I believe I saw here with a guy pulling his plug and posting his pics. If you do a search on the internet you get about a million pictures with all kinds of definitive answers what is "correct" from completely white electrodes with a black ring around the bottom. To more tanned versions on the electrode. Etc. Does anyone have a bike running perfectly and can pull one plug and quickly post it? I'll try while I'm here at work to find something close to what I have.

My digital camera suck.s the Macro on it is fuzzy as hell. It's ok I'll figure it out, thanks for reading the post anyway. I got it running pretty good but as with some people on this board I'm a bit of a perfectionist.

i learned at school the plug should have a 'coffee-brown' colour to it. Like the cappucino foam, i'd say.

Try this link, it has a good list of the different colors associated with plugs.

Instead of trusting the plug color with today's crappy gasoline and many carb circuits in play, remove a shim and ride the bike through a tankful. Keep removing shims (or lowering the needle .020 at a time) until she stumbles around 3-5K on cruise. Then, add 1 shim. You're done.
This was the Dale Walker method of old and very effective.

Sorry for the late response.

This is a "NGK JR9B" after approximately 6,000 miles of use.  The bike is a stock (except the idle mixture screws are out 2 turns) '03 1200s with 16,000 total miles.

Thanks!! Nice pic. Ok cool now I know what to look for. I'm assuming the spotty bits are probably due to the weird stuff they are putting in gasoline now.
