2001 1200 vibration

I have a 2001 1200 with about 45,000 miles. When the motor is cold I have a vibration coming through as you rev the motor up and down. At
about 2000 rpm on the down rev it is like a loose gear around the alternator area. Once the motor is hot it is not there. We have been having very cold ( for LA )
mornings around the 40's but it also happens in the afternoon in the 60's. I assume that once the oil is hot then it goes away. It just started on its own and I can't think
of anything that could have caused this. Oil level is correct and the pressure light goes out as soon as it is started. I looked at the starter components and everything looks okay there. I removed the alternator and nothing was obviously wrong in there. Any help would be appreciated. Happy 2009.

Check all your engine mount bolts. My dirtbike had some wicked vibrations from the motor and when i did the top end on it i noticed that all of the mounts were really loose. i could practically shake the motor with my hands

That is a tough one might try and check the cam tensioner, it is right beside the alternator on the block. The noise might be from chain slap, from front to back (on gas-off gas).

Thank you for your replies. I will look into the mounts as well as the cam tensioner. I also was looking at the alternator cush drive might be worn. Weird thing is that it dosen't happen everytime I start it up. Weird situation, but once again thanks.

I have owned nothing but air cooled bikes my whole life and from my experience, it isn't uncommon for them to vibrate or act weird when cold.  As far as the cam chain tensioner, it is automatic on the Bandits and don't require attention unless it is broke.  If it goes away when warm, it most likely isn't the the motor mounts, but doesn't hurt to check.  Bandit motors are typically known to be vibey motor, especially around 4K rpms.  I've had motor mounts come loose, so it doesn't hurt to check them periodically.  I do notice that the bike is a bit more determined not to run right in the Winter than during the Summer months until the motor is warmed up.  Carbs don't compensate as well as fuel injection does.  What kind of oil are you using and what weight?

I am using 5-40 during the cold weather. In the 60's today. I am going to install a new clutch with a new clutch bearing. That way I know that those items are good. I have been warmimg it up at a higher rpm and the problem has not happened again. Thank you for your answers.
