gen2 b12 to 89 gixxer engine swap

hey guys really exciting project here. i just laid my hands on an 89 gsxr 1127 with 11000 miles on it. my initial thought was to remove the head and cams to just put on my bandit. then i started thinking it might be easier to just swap out the whole engine. then maybe at some point in the future i could bore the larger displacement bandit block out for some higher compression pistons and more cc  :grin:
 has anyone ever actually swapped out an engine like this or have any insight as to how compatible the connections might be?

I'd be excited too  :clap: but I've not tried it of course and haven't heard of anyone who has. I'm on the lookout for an old oil cooled engine myself... still hoping a 750 slingshot motor makes its way to the front door as I want the cams and some other 'parts'.

sounds like it will be fun bike.  I would think the GSXR would plug right in but I've never pullled an engine.

It will bolt right in, as will an air oil-cooled 600 or 750.

hey its great to get the message from you as you seem to be really active and wise about these bikes. i have gotten the engine in yesterday and have found just a couple glitches. the alternator plugs didnt match so i just swapped them. the main issue im thinking i have at this point is going to be the speed nut on the engine sprocket, theres a sensor on that cover to apparantly sense the rpm of that sprocket. the gixxer engine didnt have the inside of it tapped out to receive that speed nut and bolt. i think tapping it is going to be the solution to getting a speedo. do you have any opinion on whether or not as to the instructions recommend using only brand new frame mounting nuts. i was just going to put the blue threadlocker back on em and put the old ones back on. im self employed and getting new nuts will be a pain for me as the dealers are open the same hours as i am. i think if i can use those old nuts i can be ready to fire it tomorrow.

sorry  :rofl: I wouldn't bother with the new frame mounting nuts, unless the old ones looked to have bad thread. I'd use the blue threadlocker on fire her up  :bandit:

As for the speedo thing, you should be able to use the B12's cover with the sensor, on the 1127 mill.
Also, the B12 alternator is a better unit (and I think higher output) than the older 1127 piece.  I'm pretty sure the drive grears are different though, so you'll need to use the 1127's alternator gear.

 im so excited i could barely sleep last night thanks: pauly62@comcast.net UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE  the switch w to get the spedo back workingent down prettiy much gliuthchless but it took me an extra week to get the longer clutch rod form the 89gixxer engine i didnt get and full hindle .system didnt particularly like the extra 400cc of oil from the gixxer sump the gixxer sprocket was not case hardened too bad so drilling and tapping wasnt anywhere as difficult as one might have thought. the increase in power seems to come from the higher end 1st gear power wheelies are no problemalthough i had hoped i would get some in second too.. . i have just purchased a set of 38 mikini flat slides and  was thinking while in tring to locate a 1216kit and some heads. i wouls install the 1157 block with the gixxers heads and thoise 38s while im tryhing to lay my hands on some heavier duty engine componenmts to go with the 39 kehins i just got a couple days ago . anyone got a 1216 kits and some streetable heads they have outgrown? ill let ya know how the gixxer banditblock with the 38s works out
