Handlebar dimensions
« on: March 01, 2006, 06:42:36 AM »
I have a quick question about handlebar dimensions if anyone can help. I've bought a pair of aftermarket bars with an outside diameter of 7/8". The bar looks quite thick however and the inside diameter of the hole (for the bar ends) is 9/16" (15mm). Is this the same setup as standard bars (1G B6)?

I haven't stripped the standard bars down yet so haven't measured. I'm pretty sure that 7/8" is standard outside diameter but not sure about the inner diameter, or whether it even matters as the bar-end will expand / contract to fit anyway?

Many thanks.

7/8 is the standard OD of the bars, but a 9/16 ID sounds like they're pretty thick-walled, though I haven't ever measured them, so maybe it's just my mental picture. Are they aluminum?
The bar ends come out easy enough to check though. Just loosen the fastener on the end until they get loose (do NOT take the screw out!) and pull them out.

Yes, they're aluminium. They're a Renthal type/copy, I think.

Probably gonna have to get a set that's made for that kind of bar.

I ran into the same problem with AL-tubed clipons.  I can't remember where the hell I got them but I did find bar-ends specifically for them with a smaller rubber plug.  If I come across the receipt, I'll post it.

Try Demonbikes.com got my bar ends there. You might not live in the north east but they have an online shop, and you can phone them first to see if they have the size you want.

Renthal bar ends come with a removable sleeve so they will fit both diameters.

Thanks for all the replies. I ordered some from Demonbikes in the end. The guy was so helpful it was unreal. You'd think I was buying a brand new 10k bike from him, not some £8 bar ends!!
